Cochlear brings circular design into its evolving workspace

Cochlear has spent decades developing hearing technology that helps people reconnect with sound. As the organisation grew, its Mechelen office also needed to evolve into a more flexible and comfortable workplace.

The team wanted furniture that could support hybrid work, informal collaboration, and employee well-being while keeping sustainability in the decision-making process.

Relieve helped Cochlear source second-life pieces that could work within the existing office and support new relaxed, collaborative zones. The showroom visit gave the team a practical way to compare quality, models, and fit before choosing.

The selection included pieces that met immediate needs as well as extra finds that worked naturally in the space, including seating suited to more informal conversations.

The project saved 0.28 tonnes of CO2 and rehoused 43 items. It gave Cochlear a more flexible workplace with visible circular choices embedded in the everyday office environment.

The transformation is still being refined, but the direction is clear: a workspace can support innovation, comfort, and sustainability at the same time.
