Redesigning with purpose: A circular transformation at KING Belgium
We recently had the opportunity to work with KING Belgium, a distributor of cleaning products, hygiene and disinfection supplies, single-use medical and catering materials, and protective equipment. Active in both Belgium and Luxembourg, KING supplies end users like schools, hospitals, municipalities, ministries, care homes, horeca, cleaning and catering companies, amusement parks, and wholesalers.
As part of a broader office redesign, KING wanted to approach their workspace with sustainability in mind - not just in the materials they use, but in the way their space reflects their operational values. That’s where we came in.
Circular workspaces from the ground up
We helped KING Belgium fully refurnish their office space using second-hand furniture. In total, 58 items were selected from our inventory, ranging from desks to seating and storage - all carefully matched to fit the needs of their new layout.
This reuse-first approach resulted in 1.16 tons of CO₂ savings, compared to purchasing new items. By extending the lifecycle of high-quality furniture, we helped reduce environmental impact while supporting a more circular and resource-efficient way of working.
Design details with purpose
The project didn’t stop at furniture. Together with Reglo, we created a custom wooden partition wall using reclaimed materials, adding both functionality and visual warmth to the space. It served as a subtle but clear reminder of the project’s circular foundations.
To bring everything together, Laure Moulin designed custom cushions made from surplus fabrics, complementing the tones of the furniture and making the space feel cohesive and inviting - without generating new waste.
A local and human connection
One of the team members at KING shared a small story with us that made the project feel even more personal. She told us she had heard about Relieve through her father, who remembered our co-founder’s father from their school days. A small anecdote, but a nice reminder of the kind of local, human connections that quietly support our work.
Reflecting shared values
Working with KING Belgium felt like a natural fit. Their focus on efficiency, service, and responsibility mirrors many of the values we bring into circular design. This project shows how thoughtful reuse, strong collaboration, and custom solutions can come together to create a space that’s not just functional, but that really emphasizes the importance of circularity.
Our office interior hadn’t been updated since 1991, so a redesign was long overdue. We deliberately chose circular furniture through Relieve, as sustainability matters to both us and our younger team - and the result, especially in the cafeteria, turned out beautifully.
