From one office to another: how VDFin joined the circular movement
Sometimes, sustainability brings things full circle, quite literally. That was the case with our recent collaboration with VDFin, a finance company committed to making responsible choices for the future.
VDFin reached out to us after hearing about the project we had completed for D’Ieteren in Koekelberg, where we managed the clearance and sustainable processing of their outgoing office furniture. That project was a success, and word travels fast, especially when circular impact is involved.
Funny enough, the office VDFin was moving into is the very same building we had cleared for D’Ieteren just a few months before. To get there, we first helped VDFin responsibly clear out their old space, creating a full-circle moment in more ways than one.
No article left behind
As part of their move, VDFin wanted to do things right, not just by clearing out their old office, but by making sure as much as possible was reused, repurposed, or redirected toward a second life.
That’s exactly what we aim for at Relieve: no article left behind. Every piece of office furniture was reviewed, sorted, and either reintegrated into new uses or prepared for responsible redistribution.
Engaging the people behind the furniture
What made this project especially meaningful was the employee engagement campaign that VDFin ran alongside the clearance. Rather than make sustainability a back-office process, they brought their teams into the loop, encouraging staff to take part in the transition by giving certain items a new home or learning more about where materials were going.
This kind of involvement is something we love to support at Relieve. Sustainability works best when it’s not just top-down but shared across the company.
It's not only about what moves out, but more about what the experiences leaves behind in people's minds.
Real impact, coming soon
We’re still finalizing the numbers, but here’s what the collaboration has already delivered:
- + 333 furniture pieces recovered from the old VDFin office
- Estimated 20.9 CO₂ savings to be confirmed soon
Together, we’ve diverted valuable materials from landfill and helped VDFin start their new chapter in a familiar building, this time, with a fresh and circular mindset.
From Koekelberg, with purpose
There’s something poetic about one company’s departure paving the way for another’s greener future, especially when both choose circularity as a core value. We’re proud to have helped make that transition smoother (and lighter, quite literally) for both D’Ieteren and VDFin.
